For many individuals, a thread lift can help correct common cosmetic concerns that often lead to a tired or aged expression. This innovative and non-surgical option utilizes absorbable sutures to address signs of aging that often appear in the forehead, jawline, and neck. Part of our vast selection of non-surgical aesthetic treatments, a MINT™ PDO thread lift can help contour, lift, and firm the facial tissue. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dana Coberly, MD, can meet with you to determine whether this state-of-the-art cosmetic treatment option is ideal for your needs and goals.

What Is a MINT™ PDO Thread Lift?

A MINT™ PDO thread lift is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten sagging skin tissues by stimulating collagen production. MINT™ (Minimally Invasive Non-Surgical Threads) PDO (polydioxanone) threads are made from an absorbable material used in medical sutures. During the procedure, these threads are inserted into the skin using fine needles and then positioned to create an instant, visible lift. The threads also help promote natural collagen production over time, which can lead to a more youthful and refreshed look. This procedure is popular for its minimal recovery time and ability to produce quick improvements, making it a preferred choice for many individuals seeking facial rejuvenation without surgery.

What Are the Benefits of a MINT™ PDO Thread Lift?

There are numerous potential benefits that can be provided with a MINT™ PDO thread lift, including:

Although a thread lift can be an effective option for those with mild to moderate cosmetic concerns, patients looking for more significant rejuvenation may benefit more from facelift surgery. Dr. Coberly can explore your options with you once your skin has been evaluated during the initial consultation.

How Is a MINT™ PDO Thread Lift Performed?

A MINT™ PDO thread lift is often performed in about 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the areas treated. This procedure typically begins with the application of a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. Once the area is numbed, Dr. Coberly uses a fine needle to insert the MINT™ PDO threads beneath the skin’s surface. These threads are made from polydioxanone, a biodegradable material that is considered both safe and absorbable.

MINT™ PDO threads are strategically placed along predetermined lines on the face or neck to support sagging tissues and stimulate collagen production. As Dr. Coberly adjusts the threads, they gently lift and reposition the skin, creating an immediate lifting effect. After the threads are in place, the needle is removed, and the entry points typically heal quickly without noticeable scars.

How Long Is Recovery Following a MINT™ PDO Thread Lift?

Recovery following a MINT™ PDO thread lift is often relatively quick, with most patients able to resume normal activities within a day. Mild swelling, bruising, and soreness can occur, but these effects typically subside within a week. Patients may be advised to avoid strenuous activities and excessive facial movements for about two weeks to allow the threads to properly settle. During this period, it is also important to follow specific aftercare instructions, such as sleeping on the back and avoiding direct sun exposure. Most patients see immediate lifting effects, with continued improvements as collagen production increases, peaking around six months post-procedure.

How Long Do MINT™ PDO Thread Lift Results Last?

In most cases, results can last a year or two. Patients may choose to return for follow-up treatments to maintain their desired outcomes. Most patients notice the effects of their thread lift immediately, but some may see their results gradually appear as the threads are absorbed into the skin. Factors such as age, skin quality, and lifestyle can influence the longevity of results, meaning it is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and proper skin care routine. The threads themselves often dissolve within six to eight months, but the collagen stimulation they trigger should continue to enhance skin texture and firmness.
