Types of Implants Used
Each woman is different and will need a unique implant for their situation. At Coberly, each patient meets with Dr. Coberly to discuss their situation and determines the type of implant best suited for them.
Typically, patients receive an implant with a solid, silicone shell. Inside the shell is a gel. In some cases, the outside shell is textured to reduce the chance of scarring. These implants are softer than implants of the past and less likely to be felt through the skin. The federal Food and Drug Administration has approved silicone gel implants as safe for breast augmentation.
Patients also can use fat from their own body injected into their breasts. This procedure is available for some, but not all, patients.
Recovery Time
The ASPS reports that many of those who have a breast augmentation will be discharged in as little as an hour after the surgery is completed. There will be restrictions on movement.
At Coberly, post-surgery procedure includes monitoring the patients until they are ready for discharge. Patients are given pain medications and can typically return to normal activity within one or two days, with restrictions on what they do. They can return to work in three to seven days, although physical restrictions still apply. Swelling may not completely go away for a few weeks.
